Mon Renaissance

Today's classes marked the start of a new quarter at college. While I have often glided through school due to what some would call "natural intelligence," I sicken myself. I have never tried to be my best in life; I have never taken a class where I have been satisfied with my grade. Although I often get A's, and maintain a 3.8 cumulative GPA, the manner in which I get them is unacceptable. So today, I have begun Operation Ubermensch. The Ubermensch, as Nietzsche coined it, is the ideal human. The person who strives for betterment of self each and every day.

This morning, I scrubbed my feet thoroughly, removing the grime from their soles. This morning, I woke up at 9:30am to buy my textbooks and do my laundry. This morning, I greeted the cashier with a smile and kind gratitude. This morning, I began my reign as the Ubermensch.

Thought Talk: The Dealth Penalty

Today, I was reading Franz Kafka for the first time. Specifically, his short story titled "In the Penal Colony." The story is about the punishment of a criminal by a torture device which etches the name of his crime (treason, for example) into his body. This is done with needle-like pricks that go deep into his body, ultimately (and purposefully) killing him. While I don't think that torture is necessary for all criminals, I do think that it is useful to gain crucial information. Coincidentally, this brings up questions about the death penalty, which I abhor. I think that prisons should work to rehabilitate prisoners, not simply give up on any hope for their improvement. Perhaps the idea of the DP can be humorously pressed in this manner: in a case of murder, the criminal may be sentenced to the death penalty. Why? Because the criminal's act of killing a person was deemed unjust. However, the judicial system is committing the same act (by killing the criminal), the very act it deemed unjust! Does anybody else think this is ridiculous? Or am I just stupid?

My Webbed Mentality: An Introduction

Hey guys, this is my first blog that I have ever done. I intend to document my life while at college, including the thoughts which shape my evolution of character. Because I am interested in philosophy, I hope to collaborate with others intellectually. However, I also enjoy the thrill of sports like basketball, football, and soccer, so I may give my opinions on those topics.

To give some information about myself: my name is Bobby Namath, and I go to a University in the city of Chicago. I was born in Katy, Texas, a suburb just outside of the metropolitan area of Houston, where I spent the first seven years of my childhood. My older brothers all won 5A State Championships in football at Katy High, and I have remained a follower of the sport back home.

If you find my blog interesting or valuable, please recommend it to your friends. I look forward to reading others' blogs, and hope to build a vast amount of connections throughout. Enjoy!
